A1—0 to 28 centimeters (0.0 to 11.0 inches); dark gray (10YR 4/1), very dark brown (10YR 2/2), moist; silt loam; medium granular structure; friable; fragments. Lab sample # 40A18290
A2—28 to 41 centimeters (11.0 to 16.1 inches); gray (10YR 5/1), very dark gray (10YR 3/1), moist; silt loam; weak prismatic parts to weak granular structure; fragments. Lab sample # 40A18291
Bw—41 to 58 centimeters (16.1 to 22.8 inches); grayish brown (10YR 5/2), very dark brown (10YR 2/2), moist; silty clay; hard, very firm, moderately plastic; fragments; gradual boundary. Lab sample # 40A18292. The upper part of this layer has strongly developed columnar-prismatic structure with heavy coating of shiny nearly black organic colloids on the surface of the columns. The lower 3 inches of the columns are less well defined and become blocky where they grade with the next layer below. The column tops are only slightly rounded, are coated with a 1/4-inch degrading, partly leached, slightly lighter colored layer, and sharply contact the A2 above. The columns merge gradually with the layer below.
BC—58 to 69 centimeters (22.8 to 27.2 inches); light brownish gray (2.5Y 6/2), dark grayish brown (2.5Y 4/2), moist; silty clay; medium angular blocky structure; hard, firm, moderately plastic; fragments; abrupt boundary. Lab sample # 40A18293
Bk—69 to 107 centimeters (27.2 to 42.1 inches); light olive gray (5Y 6/2), olive (5Y 5/3), moist; silty clay loam, silty clay; massive; fragments. Lab sample # 40A18294
C—107 to 152 centimeters (42.1 to 59.8 inches); light gray (5Y 7/2), light olive gray (5Y 6/2), moist; silt loam, silty clay loam; massive; fragments. Lab sample # 40A18295
