A1—8 to 23 centimeters (3.1 to 9.1 inches); very dark gray (10YR 3/1) Error; medium angular blocky structure; 7.0 roots; fragments; clear smooth boundary. Lab sample # OSU0004527. high organic content;
B—23 to 46 centimeters (9.1 to 18.1 inches); very dark gray (10YR 3/1) Error; strong medium angular blocky structure; 3.0 roots; dark reddish brown (5YR 3/3), moist, masses of oxidized iron; fragments; clear smooth boundary. Lab sample # OSU0004528. mottles are irregularly mixed and constitute about 30% of the total volume; Contains an occasional pebble up to 1/2 or 3/4 inch in diameter.
B—46 to 66 centimeters (18.1 to 26.0 inches); very dark gray (10YR 3/1) Error; weak prismatic, and strong angular blocky, and prismatic structure; 3.0 roots; reddish brown (5YR 4/3), moist, masses of oxidized iron and strong brown (7.5YR 5/6), moist, masses of oxidized iron and reddish brown (5YR 4/3), moist, masses of oxidized iron; fragments; gradual wavy boundary. Lab sample # OSU0004529. mottles make up about 30% of the color.
B—66 to 104 centimeters (26.0 to 40.9 inches); gray (5Y 5/1) Error; moderate prismatic, and weak coarse prismatic, and moderate subangular blocky structure; 0.9 roots; yellowish brown (10YR 5/6), moist, masses of oxidized iron and 33 percent medium and coarse prominent yellowish brown (10YR 5/4), moist, masses of oxidized iron; fragments; gradual boundary. Lab sample # OSU0004530. Mottles constitute about 30% of total volume;
B—104 to 183 centimeters (40.9 to 72.0 inches); gray (5Y 6/1) and yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) Error; medium and coarse subangular blocky structure; 0.1 roots; fragments. Lab sample # OSU0004531. Pattern is coarse irregular and colors are about 50-50; grade of structure decreases to almost structure-less with depth;
C1—183 to 198 centimeters (72.0 to 78.0 inches); brown (10YR 5/3) and gray (5Y 6/1) and yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) Error; fragments. Lab sample # OSU0004532. Sampled with auger: gray colors appear as coatings round units which are brown to yellowish brown inside. Gray material is smooth and slick; nearly massive glacial till that contains many fragments of black shale up to 3/4? in diamter. Calcareous.
