A1—0 to 15 centimeters (0.0 to 5.9 inches); very dark gray (10YR 3/1) Error; strong medium granular structure; fragments; neutral, pH 7.0; abrupt boundary. Lab sample # OSU0005575. Slightly plastic. Rust colored stains in vicinity of roots.
A2—15 to 25 centimeters (5.9 to 9.8 inches); very dark gray (10YR 3/1) and black (2.5Y 2/1) Error; strong very fine angular blocky structure; firm; clay films; fragments; neutral, pH 7.1; abrupt boundary. Lab sample # OSU0005576. Plastic. Water table at 8 inches, and necessary to bail pit for sampling.
E—25 to 30 centimeters (9.8 to 11.8 inches); gray (5Y 5/1) and dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2) Error; moderate medium angular blocky structure; friable; 11 percent fine distinct olive brown (2.5Y 4/4), moist, masses of oxidized iron; fragments; neutral, pH 7.3; abrupt boundary. Lab sample # OSU0005577. Common fine distinct mottles on ped surfaces; many fine prominent mottles within peds. This horizon has a bleached appearance, lacks clay coatings on peds and moderate structure development.
B—30 to 48 centimeters (11.8 to 18.9 inches); dark gray (5Y 4/1) Error; strong medium and coarse angular blocky structure; very firm; prominent clay films on faces of peds; 11 percent fine distinct olive brown (2.5Y 4/4), moist, masses of oxidized iron and 11 percent fine distinct dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4), moist, masses of oxidized iron; fragments; neutral, pH 7.3; clear boundary. Lab sample # OSU0005578. Common fine distinct mottles on ped surfaces; many medium and large prominent mottles within peds.
BC—48 to 66 centimeters (18.9 to 26.0 inches); gray (5Y 5/1) Error; very firm; 33 percent fine and medium prominent olive brown (2.5Y 4/4), moist, masses of oxidized iron; fragments; slightly alkaline, pH 7.4; clear boundary. Lab sample # OSU0005579. Many pebbles; possibly includes sandy lenses.
C1—66 to 76 centimeters (26.0 to 29.9 inches); greenish gray (10G 5/1) Error; weak very coarse angular blocky structure; very firm; 33 percent medium and coarse olive brown (2.5Y 4/4), moist, masses of oxidized iron and 33 percent medium and coarse dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4), moist, masses of oxidized iron; fragments; slight effervescence. Lab sample # OSU0005580. Very plastic. This horizon possibly should be considered BC because of structure development.
C—66 to 107 centimeters (26.0 to 42.1 inches); Error; massive; friable; fragments; slightly alkaline, pH 7.4. Lab sample # OSU0005583. Sandy lenses within the till material. Light olive brown, olive brown, dark gray (2.5Y 5/4, 4/4, 4/1) mottled sandy clay loam.
C2—76 to 107 centimeters (29.9 to 42.1 inches); greenish gray (10G 5/1) Error; weak very coarse angular blocky structure; very firm; 33 percent medium and coarse olive brown (2.5Y 4/4), moist, masses of oxidized iron and 33 percent medium and coarse dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4), moist, masses of oxidized iron; fragments; slight effervescence. Lab sample # OSU0005581. Very plastic. This horizon possibly should be considered BC because of structure development.
C3—107 to 112 centimeters (42.1 to 44.1 inches); olive brown (2.5Y 4/4) Error; massive; friable; 11 percent medium prominent dark gray (N 4/), moist, masses of reduced iron; fragments; slight effervescence. Lab sample # OSU0005582. This layer continues below depth sampled.
