Ap—0 to 15 centimeters (0.0 to 5.9 inches); dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2), grayish brown (10YR 5/2), dry; Error; weak medium and coarse granular, and platy structure; friable; fragments; moderately acid, pH 5.8; abrupt smooth boundary. Lab sample # OSU0009259. Considerable erosion has probably taken place and part of the BE layer has probably been mixed with the Ap layer.
BE—15 to 25 centimeters (5.9 to 9.8 inches); brown (10YR 4/3), grayish brown (10YR 5/2), dry; Error; firm; 15 percent faint clay films; 1 percent fine faint grayish brown (10YR 5/2), moist, masses of reduced iron; fragments; moderately acid, pH 5.8; clear wavy boundary. Lab sample # OSU0009260
B1—25 to 38 centimeters (9.8 to 15.0 inches); dark yellowish brown (10YR 3/4) and gray (10YR 5/1) and dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2) Error; strong medium and coarse subangular blocky, and prismatic structure; firm; clay films; fragments; moderately acid, pH 5.6; abrupt smooth boundary. Lab sample # OSU0009261. Roots are very evident in place. Very compact and dense. A few small shale fragments encountered and horizon appears to increase in density and compactness with depth.
B2—38 to 48 centimeters (15.0 to 18.9 inches); very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) and dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2) and dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) Error; strong coarse prismatic, and strong subangular blocky structure; extremely firm; clay films; fragments; moderately acid, pH 5.6; gradual irregular boundary. Lab sample # OSU0009262. Structure very evident in places with good vertical cleavage but not many horizontal fractures. Roots located along fractures. Very compact and dense.
B3—48 to 61 centimeters (18.9 to 24.0 inches); dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) and dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2) and very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) Error; strong subangular blocky, and strong coarse prismatic structure; extremely firm; clay films; fragments; moderately acid, pH 6.0; gradual irregular boundary. Lab sample # OSU0009263. Prismatic structure evident in place; very little horizontal cleavage. Roots located along cleavage planes. Very compact and dense.
B4—61 to 71 centimeters (24.0 to 28.0 inches); dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) and very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) Error; moderate medium and coarse subangular blocky structure; extremely firm; clay films; faint gray (10YR 5/1), moist, masses of reduced iron; 1 percent light gray (10YR 7/1), moist, carbonate masses; fragments; slight effervescence. Lab sample # OSU0009264. Abrupt decrease in number of roots. Tongues of this horizon appear to extend into the C horizon.
CB—71 to 84 centimeters (28.0 to 33.1 inches); dark gray (10YR 4/1) and dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) Error; massive, and moderate medium and coarse; extremely firm; light gray (10YR 7/1), moist, carbonate masses; fragments; strong effervescence. Lab sample # OSU0009265. Clay till. Lime segregations increase with depth and a definite pattern effect starts to appear.
C1—84 to 99 centimeters (33.1 to 39.0 inches); dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) and dark gray (10YR 4/1) Error; massive, and moderate subangular blocky; extremely firm; light gray (10YR 7/1), moist, carbonate masses; fragments; strong effervescence. Lab sample # OSU0009266. Clay till.
C2—99 to 112 centimeters (39.0 to 44.1 inches); dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2) and dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) and dark gray (10YR 4/1) Error; massive; very firm; 10 percent light gray (10YR 7/1), moist, carbonate masses; fragments; strong effervescence. Lab sample # OSU0009267. Silty clay till. Occasional pebble.
C3—112 to 124 centimeters (44.1 to 48.8 inches); yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) and dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) Error; massive; extremely firm; 1 percent light gray (10YR 7/1), moist, carbonate masses; fragments; strong effervescence. Lab sample # OSU0009268. Silty clay till. Limestone pebbles increase with depth.
C4—124 to 145 centimeters (48.8 to 57.1 inches); dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) and yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) Error; massive; extremely firm; 1 percent light gray (10YR 7/1), moist, carbonate masses; fragments; strong effervescence. Lab sample # OSU0009269. Silty clay till. Limestone pebbles increase with depth.
