Oi—0 to 1 centimeters (0.0 to 0.4 inches); fragments. Rather thin covering of apparently last year?s leaves.
A—1 to 14 centimeters (0.4 to 5.5 inches); very dark gray (10YR 3/1) and very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) Error; moderate medium and coarse granular structure; friable; fragments; abrupt wavy boundary. Lab sample # OSU0008647. Mull. Stone free (loess). This horizon is somewhat lighter in color in lower portion approaching 10YR 4/1.
E—14 to 27 centimeters (5.5 to 10.6 inches); brown (10YR 5/3) and brown (10YR 5/3) Error; coarse, and weak granular structure; friable; 33 percent medium yellowish brown (10YR 5/6), moist, masses of oxidized iron; fragments; clear smooth boundary. Lab sample # OSU0008648. Stone free (loess). Has a very vesicular appearance in place.
EB—27 to 34 centimeters (10.6 to 13.4 inches); brown (10YR 5/3) and yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) and 10YR 5/ (10YR 5/), Error; weak coarse granular structure; friable; fragments; clear smooth boundary. Lab sample # OSU0008649. Yellowish brown material (10YR 5/6) is slightly more clayey than other. Brown material (10YR 5.5/3) is a coating color. Apparently loess.
B1—34 to 52 centimeters (13.4 to 20.5 inches); yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) and strong brown (7.5YR 5/6) Error; moderate medium subangular blocky structure; friable; fragments; abrupt smooth boundary. Lab sample # OSU0008650. Occasional large sandstone fragments. Horizon appears to be derived from loess.
B2—52 to 67 centimeters (20.5 to 26.4 inches); brown (7.5YR 4/4) Error; strong subangular blocky structure; firm; brown (10YR 5/3), moist, masses of reduced iron; fragments; abrupt smooth boundary. Lab sample # OSU0008651. Occasional large sandstone fragments with clay coatings on upper surface but none on lower surface. Appears to be derived from loess.
B3—67 to 77 centimeters (26.4 to 30.3 inches); dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) Error; moderate subangular blocky structure; firm; prominent grayish brown (10YR 5/2), moist, clay films; 20 percent by volume nonflat indurated unspecified fragments; abrupt smooth boundary. Lab sample # OSU0008652. Several large sandstone fragments with thick (up to 0.25 inch) clay coatings on upper surface but none on lower surface. This horizon may mark loess boundary.
2BC1—77 to 90 centimeters (30.3 to 35.4 inches); yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) Error; massive, and weak subangular blocky; firm; brittle; prominent grayish brown (10YR 5/2), moist, clay films and grayish brown (10YR 5/2), moist, silt coats; 40 percent by volume nonflat indurated unspecified fragments; gradual wavy boundary. Lab sample # OSU0008653. This is a fragipan. Many large flat sandstone fragments with few clay coatings on rock surface.
2BCm2—90 to 108 centimeters (35.4 to 42.5 inches); grayish brown (10YR 5/2) and brown (10YR 5/3) Error; weak coarse angular blocky structure; firm; grayish brown (10YR 5/2), moist, clay films; 50 percent by volume nonflat indurated unspecified fragments; gradual wavy boundary. Lab sample # OSU0008654. Mottled mixture of matrix colors. This is a fragipan. Coarse skeleton of large sandstone fragments with clay coatings on some upper surfaces.
2C—108 to 127 centimeters (42.5 to 50.0 inches); fragments. Fairly solid; essentially sandstone. In cracks the BC2 extends downward about 12 inches. Not sampled.
