Oi—0 to 3 centimeters (0.0 to 1.2 inches); dark reddish brown (5YR 2/2); fragments; moderately acid, pH 6.0. Lab sample # OSU0009813. Mull of litter of oak, beech, tulip, dogwood, greenbriar, blackberry, etc.
Oe—3 to 5 centimeters (1.2 to 2.0 inches); dark reddish brown (5YR 2/2); fragments; very strongly acid, pH 5.0; abrupt wavy boundary. Lab sample # OSU0009814. Mull more decomposed than above layer; individual species not identifiable with naked eye.
A1—5 to 9 centimeters (2.0 to 3.5 inches); very dark gray (10YR 3/1) Error; weak fine and medium granular structure; friable; fragments; very strongly acid, pH 5.0; clear wavy boundary. Lab sample # OSU0009815. Sandstone fragments common. Many quartz sand grains visible.
A2—9 to 14 centimeters (3.5 to 5.5 inches); dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2) Error; moderate fine granular structure; friable; fragments; very strongly acid, pH 5.0; clear irregular boundary. Lab sample # OSU0009816. Sandstone fragments common. Occasional tongues up to 1-2 inches in diameter extend into this horizon from the horizon above (A1).
E1—14 to 28 centimeters (5.5 to 11.0 inches); yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) Error; weak medium subangular blocky structure; friable; fragments; very strongly acid, pH 5.0; gradual wavy boundary. Lab sample # OSU0009817. Structure is better developed in lower part of horizon. Sandstone fragments up to 1.5 inches in diameter are common.
E2—28 to 38 centimeters (11.0 to 15.0 inches); 10YR 5/ (10YR 5/), Error; weak medium subangular blocky structure; friable; faint clay films on faces of peds; fragments; very strongly acid, pH 4.9; clear wavy boundary. Lab sample # OSU0009818. Sandstone fragments up to 1.5 inches in diameter are common. Lower boundary of this horizon is clear and wavy; however, lower natural boundary of total E2 is clear and irregular to broken as indicated in next lower horizon.; patchy - phpvsfiid 976104; patchy - phpvsfiid 976104
B/E—38 to 46 centimeters (15.0 to 18.1 inches); dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) Error; moderate fine and medium subangular blocky structure; firm; fragments; very strongly acid, pH 4.8. Lab sample # OSU0009819. This horizon is about 65% B and 35% E materials. Tongues of E range from 0.75 to 0.25 inches in diameter.
B1—46 to 53 centimeters (18.1 to 20.9 inches); dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) Error; moderate medium subangular blocky structure; firm; faint brown (7.5YR 4/4), moist, clay films on faces of peds; fragments; very strongly acid, pH 4.6; gradual wavy boundary. Lab sample # OSU0009820. Few sandstone fragments up to 2 inches in diameter.; patchy - phpvsfiid 976105; patchy - phpvsfiid 976105
B2—53 to 71 centimeters (20.9 to 28.0 inches); dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) Error; medium subangular blocky structure; firm; faint yellowish brown (10YR 5/4), moist, clay films; fragments; very strongly acid, pH 4.7; clear wavy boundary. Lab sample # OSU0009821. patchy - phpvsfiid 976106; patchy - phpvsfiid 976106
BCx1—71 to 97 centimeters (28.0 to 38.2 inches); brown (7.5YR 4/2) Error; very coarse, and massive; very firm; prominent gray (10YR 6/1), moist, clay films on faces of peds; fragments; very strongly acid, pH 4.7; gradual boundary. Lab sample # OSU0009822. Peds appear to have a polygonal structure; ped interiors are massive. Friable when crushed. Fragipan is well developed. A tongue of dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) silty clay loam material extends about 2 feet into the fragipan horizon. Tongue is about 2; continuous - phpvsfiid 976107; continuous - phpvsfiid 976107
BCx2—97 to 132 centimeters (38.2 to 52.0 inches); brown (7.5YR 4/2) Error; very firm; prominent gray (10YR 6/1), moist, clay films on faces of peds; yellowish red (5YR 4/6), moist, masses of oxidized iron; fragments; very strongly acid, pH 4.8; gradual boundary. Lab sample # OSU0009823. Peds appear to have a polygonal structure; ped interiors are massive. Friable when crushed. An occasional sandstone fragment with interiors of 10YR 6/8 fragments appear to be highly weathered.; continuous - phpvsfiid 976108; continuous - phpvsfiid 976108
