A1—0 to 20 centimeters (0.0 to 7.9 inches); very dark brown (10YR 2/2) Error; weak fine granular structure; friable; fragments; abrupt smooth boundary. Lab sample # OSU0015071. Snail shells common on surface, numerous pebbles up to 1? in diameter on surface in some spots.
B—20 to 33 centimeters (7.9 to 13.0 inches); dark brown (10YR 3/3) Error; single grain; loose; fragments; abrupt smooth boundary. Lab sample # OSU0015072. Horizon is discontinuous; it occurs when the A1 overlies sandy material and is absent when the A1 overlies coarse gravel or the C contains 50% or more coarse skeleton. The contact between the A1 & C shen this conditions occurs, is very abrupt, often 1/4?
C—33 to 46 centimeters (13.0 to 18.1 inches); pale brown (10YR 6/3) Error; 58 percent by volume nonflat indurated unspecified fragments. Lab sample # OSU0015073. Sand and gravel. Gravelly sites contain up to 85% (by wt.) coarse skeleton. The gravel often contains strata 6-12? thick which are almost pure fossil snail shells. The sand and gravel extended in this pit to 10 ft.
