    A1—0 to 6 centimeters (0.0 to 2.4 inches); very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2), dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2), dry; loam; moderate fine granular parts to weak fine platy structure; slightly hard, friable, slightly sticky, slightly plastic; 3.0 roots; sand coats and 10 percent distinct ; fragments; noneffervescent; clear smooth boundary. Lab sample # NDSU0301; moist when described;. Few small gravel sockets coated with clay films and with organic matter in the A2. Many pores have rounded edges in the Bwl + Bw2. Prism faces are calcareous but inside of the prisms is strongly calcareous with a few lime modules in the Bw3. Two discontinuous sand layers of 1 1/2 and 1 inch thickness in the Bk horizon and calcareous with prominent white threads of lime 1/64 to 1/32 inch wide showing no diffusion into the soil mass.
