Ap1—0 to 10 centimeters (0.0 to 3.9 inches); very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) loam; strong fine and medium granular structure; very friable, slightly sticky, nonplastic; 21.0 roots; fragments; moderately acid, pH 5.6, hellige-truog; abrupt smooth boundary. Lab sample # 40A40828. Estimated 5 percent by weight coarse fragments greater than three inches and less than 10 inches discarded.
Ap2—10 to 18 centimeters (3.9 to 7.1 inches); very dark grayish brown (2.5Y 3/2) loam; strong fine and medium granular structure; very friable, slightly sticky, nonplastic; 21.0 roots; fragments; moderately acid, pH 5.6, hellige-truog; abrupt wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A40829
B2—18 to 33 centimeters (7.1 to 13.0 inches); brown (10YR 4/3) loam; weak fine subangular blocky structure; very friable, slightly sticky, nonplastic; 3.0 roots; fragments; moderately acid, pH 5.6, hellige-truog; abrupt smooth boundary. Lab sample # 40A40830
E—33 to 43 centimeters (13.0 to 16.9 inches); olive gray (5Y 4/2) loam; 3 percent olive brown (2.5Y 4/4) medium distinct mottles; strong medium platy structure; firm, nonsticky, nonplastic; 0.5 roots; sand coats on faces of peds; fragments; moderately acid, pH 5.6, hellige-truog; abrupt smooth boundary. Lab sample # 40A40831
Cgm1—43 to 69 centimeters (16.9 to 27.2 inches); dark grayish brown (2.5Y 4/2) silt loam; 1 percent olive brown (2.5Y 4/4) medium faint and 1 percent dark yellowish brown (10YR 3/4) medium distinct mottles; strong thick platy, and strong medium platy structure; very firm, slightly sticky, slightly plastic; 0.5 roots; clay films on faces of peds and clay films on surfaces along pores; fragments; moderately acid, pH 5.6, hellige-truog; clear smooth boundary. Lab sample # 40A40832. This horizon seems to be in polygons about one foot in diameter which are separated by vertical streaks about 1 to 2 inches wide. These streaks are gray (5Y 5/1) with dark reddish brown (5YR 3/3) edges about 5 to 10 mm wide and are pH 5.8. Penetrometer readings when penetrometer was pushed vertically into polygons were 4.50+ in each case. Estimated 15 percent by weight coarse fragments greater than 3 inches and less than 10 inches discarded.
Cgm2—69 to 114 centimeters (27.2 to 44.9 inches); olive gray (5Y 4/2) silt loam; 3 percent gray (N 5/0) coarse distinct and 3 percent olive brown (2.5Y 4/4) coarse distinct mottles; massive; very firm, slightly sticky, slightly plastic; 0.5 roots; fragments; moderately acid, pH 5.6, hellige-truog. Lab sample # 40A40833. Estimated 5 percent by weight coarse fragments greater than 3 inches and less than ten inches discarded, one cobble; horizon extends beyond depth of observation.
