A—0 to 10 centimeters (0.0 to 3.9 inches); dark brown (7.5YR 3/2), brown (7.5YR 5/4), dry; very channery loam; weak fine subangular blocky, and weak medium subangular blocky structure; slightly hard, very friable, slightly sticky, slightly plastic; 3.0 very fine roots; 40 percent by volume unspecified fragments; abrupt wavy boundary. Lab sample # NDSU0746. Many moderately thick very dark brown (10YR 2/2) clay and organic films in the 2B/E1 and 2B/E2 horizons. Few soft round masses of jarosite with Fe O2 coatings in the 2Bt1 and 2Bt2. In the 2Bt3 there is a 3mm thick lens of gypsum at 49 inches. The 2B/E2 and 2Bt3 were sampled for engineering properties. The Bw is a fravtured layer of rock (silicate). Most of the rock has vertical and horizontal fractures. The individual pieces of rock are less than 4 inches in size. This horizon dug easily with the buckhoe and the fine earth fraction constitutes about 10 percent of the horizon. The induration of the 2B/E1 horizon is irregular in depth and hardness. The secondary structure is readily evident because of
