A—0 to 38 centimeters (0.0 to 15.0 inches); black (5Y 2/2) clay; moderately sticky, slightly plastic; fragments; clear smooth boundary. Lab sample # NDSU1706, NDSU1705; wet when described;
O—13 to 0 centimeters (5.1 to 0.0 inches); dark grayish brown (2.5Y 4/2) peat; slightly sticky, nonplastic; fragments; abrupt smooth boundary.; wet when described;. Soils were sampled for laboratory analysis in 15cm increments. Profile was saturated to surface when sampled. Coarse fragments from 1-5%. Saline when dry. Salt crust present and sampled. XRD analysis identified konyaite and gypsum. KLL extractable iron tests were performed on 0-15 and 45-60cm increments. The 0-15 increment tested negative, 45-60cm increment tested positive. soil samples were collected in a region of a fresh water spring discharging into the lake.
Ag—38 to 229 centimeters (15.0 to 90.2 inches); very dark gray (5Y 3/1) sandy clay loam; 10 percent yellowish brown (10YR 5/8) medium prominent mottles; slightly sticky, nonplastic; fragments. Lab sample # NDSU1707, NDSU1708, NDSU1709, NDSU1710; wet when described;
