Location Description:
This pedon is along Hwy. 270 about 4.1 miles north of the gas station where the highway forks in Kawaihae. The sampling site is located at 160 feet elevation about midway between Kapole and Kamilo Streams, approximately at the boundary between the Kalala and Makiloa land divisions (ahupua'a). Pit is located along the roadcut on the upslope side of the road. We felt that in this arid zone there would be minimal edge effect that would compromise samples.
