A1—0 to 10 centimeters (0.0 to 3.9 inches); very dark brown (10YR 2/2) and dark brown (10YR 3/3) channery silt loam; fine granular, and coarse granular structure; very friable; worm casts; fragments. Lab sample # 40A02114. Earthworm middens were numerous and there were only twigs on the surface. The leaves were all gone.
A2—10 to 15 centimeters (3.9 to 5.9 inches); olive brown (2.5Y 4/4), light yellowish brown (2.5Y 6/3), dry; channery silt loam, loam; weak thin platy structure; friable; 3 percent by volume 2-39-75 millimeter unspecified fragments and 15 percent by volume angular 2-76-150 millimeter unspecified fragments. Lab sample # 40A02115. Under 20 powers this material was seen to be sandy in texture and had rough microrelief.
B21—15 to 25 centimeters (5.9 to 9.8 inches); dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4), light brownish gray (2.5Y 6/2), dry; channery silt loam; moderate fine and medium subangular blocky structure; friable; 21.0 very fine pores; fragments. Lab sample # 40A02116. There were only faint traces of clay flows seen under 10 powers. Under 20 powers the surface seemed to be sandy with many .1 mm pores uniformly distributed 1 to 4 mm apart. Mycelium present.
B22—25 to 41 centimeters (9.8 to 16.1 inches); light olive brown (2.5Y 5/4), light yellowish brown (2.5Y 6/3), dry; channery silt loam; light yellowish brown (2.5Y 6/3) faint mottles; fine and medium subangular blocky structure; 3.0 very fine pores; fragments. Lab sample # 40A02117. This material rests sharply on domes spaced 18 inches on center. Mottling occurs in the funnels between domes. There is a distinct and sharp boundary to the fragipan below. The bottom of most funnels were at a depth of about 20 inches. The material surrounding the pores is denser than in the horizon above and glazed. Mycelium was common.
Bx1—41 to 61 centimeters (16.1 to 24.0 inches); light gray (5Y 7/2) and grayish brown (2.5Y 5/2) and olive (5Y 5/3) and reddish brown (2.5YR 4/4) and strong brown (7.5YR 5/6), yellowish brown (10YR 5/6), dry; clay loam; 21 percent strong brown (7.5YR 5/6) medium distinct mottles; weak and moderate subangular blocky structure; very firm, moderately sticky, moderately plastic; brittle; 3.0 very fine pores; 30 percent clay films on faces of peds; fragments. Lab sample # 40A02118. Mottles border the 5/3 area. There are pores on the surfaces on the 5/3 surfaces which border the cracks. These streak in the cracks go to about 36 inches and are at 2 to 4 foot intervals. Each funnel does not have an equally long streak. The material is dense.
Bx2—61 to 122 centimeters (24.0 to 48.0 inches);, olive (5Y 5/3), dry; channery clay loam; very dark brown (10YR 2/2) and olive brown (2.5Y 4/4) mottles; massive; very firm, moderately sticky, moderately plastic; clay films in root channels and/or pores and 30 percent clay films on faces of peds; fragments. Lab sample # 40A02119. Mottled with manganese dioxide stains; there is some indication that clay flows tend to be horizontal. The material is not especially porous.; patchy - phpvsfiid 183946; patchy - phpvsfiid 183946
Bx3—122 to 137 centimeters (48.0 to 53.9 inches);, olive (5Y 5/3), dry; channery clay loam; very dark brown (10YR 2/2) and olive brown (2.5Y 4/4) mottles; massive; very firm; clay films in root channels and/or pores and 30 percent clay films on faces of peds; fragments. Lab sample # 40A02120. The sample was taken from the bottom of the ditch at a depth of about 48 to 54 inches.; patchy - phpvsfiid 183948; patchy - phpvsfiid 183948
