A1—0 to 15 centimeters (0.0 to 5.9 inches); grayish brown (10YR 5/2) and gray (10YR 5/1), very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) and very dark brown (10YR 2/2), moist; loam; moderate medium angular blocky structure; very hard, friable, nonsticky, nonplastic; fragments; slight effervescence; moderately alkaline, pH 8.0, hellige-truog; abrupt smooth boundary. Lab sample # 40A23825. Very thin (1/4 inch) platy surface layer, which grades into moderate medium angular blocky. This soil effervesces slightly with HCl. This grades abruptly and smoothly into.
B1—15 to 41 centimeters (5.9 to 16.1 inches); dark gray (10YR 4/1) and very dark gray (10YR 3/1), very dark brown (10YR 2/2) and black (10YR 2/1), moist; clay loam; moderate fine and medium angular blocky structure; extremely hard, firm, slightly sticky, moderately plastic; fragments; strong effervescence; moderately alkaline, pH 8.0, hellige-truog; clear wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A23826. The soil reacts strongly with HCl and there are thin streaks of light gray to white mycelial lime which follow root holes in the soil.
B21—41 to 69 centimeters (16.1 to 27.2 inches); very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) and grayish brown (10YR 5/2), very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) and dark brown (10YR 3/3) and brown (10YR 4/3), moist; clay; weak fine subangular blocky structure; extremely hard, firm, slightly sticky, moderately plastic; fragments; strong effervescence; moderately alkaline, pH 8.0, hellige-truog; clear smooth boundary. Lab sample # 40A23827. The soil reacts strongly to HCl and has occasional weak iron mottles.
B22—69 to 89 centimeters (27.2 to 35.0 inches); olive gray (5Y 5/2) and white (10YR 8/1), olive gray (5Y 4/2) and pink (7.5YR 7/4), moist; clay; moderate medium subangular blocky structure; extremely hard, firm, slightly sticky, moderately plastic; fragments; violent effervescence; moderately alkaline, pH 8.0, hellige-truog; clear wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A23828. The soil reacts violently to HCl and has masses of pinkish lime which react violently.
B31CA—89 to 109 centimeters (35.0 to 42.9 inches); light olive gray (5Y 6/2) and very pale brown (10YR 8/2), olive gray (5Y 4/2) and olive (5Y 4/3), moist; clay; moderate medium subangular blocky structure; extremely hard, firm, slightly sticky, moderately plastic; 1 percent fine noncoherent cemented iron-manganese masses; carbonate nodules; fragments; slight effervescence, by hcl, 1n; moderately alkaline, pH 8.0, hellige-truog; clear wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A23829. The soil reacts slightly to HCl and has whitish nodular lime 2 to 5 mm. in size which react violently. There are also a few fine (less than 1 mm.) soft manganese concretions.
B32CA—109 to 132 centimeters (42.9 to 52.0 inches); light olive gray (5Y 6/2) and white (10YR 8/1), olive (5Y 4/3), moist; clay; moderate coarse subangular blocky structure; extremely hard, firm, slightly sticky, moderately plastic; 1 percent fine noncoherent cemented iron-manganese masses; 21 percent carbonate concretions; fragments; slight effervescence, by hcl, 1n; moderately alkaline, pH 8.0, hellige-truog; clear wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A23830. The soil reacts slightly to HCl, but has many lime concretions 5-10mm. in size, which react violently; there are also a few fine (less than 1 mm.) soft manganese concretions.
B33CA—132 to 152 centimeters (52.0 to 59.8 inches); very pale brown (10YR 7/3) and white (10YR 8/1), olive (5Y 4/3), moist; clay; weak medium subangular blocky structure; extremely hard, firm, slightly sticky, moderately plastic; 1 percent fine noncoherent cemented iron-manganese masses; carbonate concretions; fragments; violent effervescence; moderately alkaline, pH 8.0, hellige-truog; abrupt smooth boundary. Lab sample # 40A23831. The soil appears to be about on-half time with numerous lime concretions 5 to 10 mm. in size which react violently to HCl. There are a few fine (less than 1 mm.) soft manganese concretions.
C—152 to 152 centimeters (59.8 to 59.8 inches); pale yellow (5Y 7/4) and yellow (10YR 7/6) and brownish yellow (10YR 6/8), olive (5Y 4/4) and yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) and yellowish brown (10YR 5/8), moist; fine sandy loam; massive; very hard, friable, slightly sticky, slightly plastic; fragments; very slight effervescence; moderately alkaline, pH 8.0, hellige-truog. Lab sample # 40A23832. Highly micaceous and has many streaks and blotches of soft manganese. The reaction is above 8, but the soil does not react to HCl.
