    Ao1—1 to 5 centimeters (0.4 to 2.0 inches);, very dark brown (10YR 2/2), dry; fragments; moderately acid, pH 5.7, chlorophenol red. Lab sample # 40A07958. Very dark brown, partially decomposed, matted pine needles, cones, and few aspen leaves and twigs; few spots of white fungi; ranges from 3/4 to 2 inches in thickness.
