O—0 to 10 centimeters (0.0 to 3.9 inches); black (10YR 2/1), very dark gray (10YR 3/1), dry; muck; granular structure; loose, nonsticky, nonplastic; fragments; noneffervescent; moderately alkaline, pH 8.0, thymol-blue; clear wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A23478. The soil mass is noncalcareous but lime occurs as small nodules which appear to have been brought up from the underlying horizon.
Bg1—10 to 25 centimeters (3.9 to 9.8 inches); grayish brown (10YR 5/2), light gray (10YR 7/1), dry; fine sandy loam; massive; soft, very friable, nonsticky, nonplastic; fragments; violent effervescence; moderately alkaline, pH 8.0, thymol-blue; clear smooth boundary. Lab sample # 40A23479. The soil reacts violently to dilute HCl and lime is disseminated. Root holes have iron coatings. Krotovinas are common.
Bg2—25 to 61 centimeters (9.8 to 24.0 inches); grayish brown (10YR 5/2), light gray (10YR 7/1), dry; fine sandy loam; massive; firm, nonsticky, nonplastic; fragments; violent effervescence; moderately alkaline, pH 8.0, thymol-blue; diffuse wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A23480. The soil reacts violently to dilute HCl, the pH is 8.0. Rust-colored iron stains follow root holes into horizon below.
Bg3—61 to 97 centimeters (24.0 to 38.2 inches); light brownish gray (10YR 6/2), light gray (10YR 7/2), dry; fine sandy loam; 3 percent light yellowish brown (10YR 6/4) medium distinct mottles; massive; hard, firm, nonsticky, nonplastic; fragments; violent effervescence; moderately alkaline, pH 8.0, thymol-blue; diffuse wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A23481. Root holes have rust colored coatings. Soil reacts violently to dilute HCl.
2C—97 to 97 centimeters (38.2 to 38.2 inches); yellowish brown (10YR 5/4), pale brown (10YR 6/3), dry; fine sand; 21 percent strong brown (7.5YR 5/6) coarse prominent mottles; massive; hard, firm, nonsticky, nonplastic; fragments; violent effervescence; moderately alkaline, pH 8.0, thymol-blue. Lab sample # 40A23482. Soil reacts violently to dilute HCl.
