A1p—0 to 15 centimeters (0.0 to 5.9 inches); black (10YR 2/1) and very dark brown (10YR 2/2), dark gray (10YR 4/1), dry; silt loam; moderate very fine and fine granular structure; friable; fragments. Lab sample # 40A21263
A3—15 to 25 centimeters (5.9 to 9.8 inches); black (10YR 2/1) and very dark brown (10YR 2/2), dark gray (10YR 4/1) and gray (10YR 5/1), dry; silty clay loam; 3 percent yellowish red (5YR 5/6) fine faint mottles; weak fine and medium granular structure; friable; fragments; clear boundary. Lab sample # 40A21264. tendency toward cloddy or fragmental structure, mottles occur mostly in a fine dendritic pattern (like fine fibrous root pattern).
B21—25 to 41 centimeters (9.8 to 16.1 inches); very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) crushed, grayish brown (10YR 5/2) and light brownish gray (10YR 6/2), dry; silty clay loam; very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) and very dark gray (10YR 3/1) fine faint and 1 percent dark brown (10YR 3/3) fine faint and 1 percent dark brown (7.5YR 3/2) fine mottles; strong very fine and fine subangular blocky structure; friable; fragments; abrupt boundary. Lab sample # 40A21265. scattered very fine sand grains visible on ped surfaces.
B22—41 to 61 centimeters (16.1 to 24.0 inches); silty clay; very dark gray (10YR 3/1) and dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) mottles; weak medium and coarse prismatic parts to weak and moderate medium and coarse angular blocky parts to fine subangular blocky structure; very firm; very dark gray (10YR 3/1) on faces of peds and distinct dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) and clay films on faces of peds; 1 percent fine dark reddish brown (2.5YR 3/3) carbonate concretions; fragments; gradual boundary. Lab sample # 40A21266. few fine dark reddish brown oxide concretions mainly 1 mm diameter; a few sand grains are present.; continuous - phpvsfiid 176797; continuous - phpvsfiid 176797
B23—61 to 86 centimeters (24.0 to 33.9 inches); dark grayish brown (2.5Y 4/2) and grayish brown (2.5Y 5/2) silty clay loam; 1 percent yellowish red (5YR 5/6) fine distinct and 3 percent yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) fine faint mottles; weak medium and coarse angular blocky, and medium and coarse prismatic structure; fragments; clear boundary. Lab sample # 40A21267. few fine yellowish red and black oxide accumulations; discontinuous clay skins present on horizontal and vertical ped faces and in tubular pores; slickensides are present and are orientated at an angle to the horizontal but more nearly horizontal than vertical; occasional sand grains are present but some less than in horizon 6 and much less than in horizons 7 and 8.
B24—86 to 99 centimeters (33.9 to 39.0 inches); dark gray (10YR 4/1) and dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2) silty clay loam; 3 percent dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) fine faint mottles; weak coarse angular blocky parts to medium prismatic structure; firm; 30 percent very dark gray (10YR 3/1) coats; fragments; clear boundary. Lab sample # 40A21268. common to few soft dark oxide accumulations about 1 mm in diameter; pore fillings within peds; discontinuous clay skins on vertical and horizontal ped surfaces and in tubular pores are predominantly very dark gray (10YR 3/1) to dark gray (10YR 4/1) in color; occasional coarse sand grains and gravel-size rock fragments.
C11—99 to 114 centimeters (39.0 to 44.9 inches); dark grayish brown (2.5Y 4/2) and grayish brown (2.5Y 5/2) clay loam; strong brown (7.5YR 4/6) and 3 percent yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) fine and medium distinct mottles; weak coarse angular blocky parts to massive; firm; 0.5 tubular pores; 10 percent very dark gray (10YR 3/1) clay films; fragments; gradual boundary. Lab sample # 40A21269. stickier than horizon 6 and has slightly more clay than horizon 8; clay skins on horizontal and vertical surfaces; oxides as in horizon below; pores 0.07 to 1 mm. in diameter mostly lined with clay films; some coarse sand and fine gravel fragments.; patchy - phpvsfiid 176799; patchy - phpvsfiid 176799

Lab sample # 40A21270. occasional cleavage planes; few soft dark oxide accumulations 2 to 3 mm. across; pores 0.07 to 1 mm. in diameter; occasional coarse sand and gravel fragments—some of granitic composition. This horizon extends to about 63 inches but was sampled between 45 and 57 inches. (Hamby estimated the texture to be a heavy clay loam and Carlisle's estimate was a medium clay loam.)
