A1p—0 to 13 centimeters (0.0 to 5.1 inches); very dark brown (10YR 2/2) silty clay loam; weak very fine and fine granular structure; hard, friable; 21.0 fine roots; 21 percent worm casts at top of horizon; fragments; abrupt smooth boundary. Lab sample # 40A17125. Lower part of horizon in compact due to tillage.
B1—13 to 20 centimeters (5.1 to 7.9 inches); very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) silty clay loam; moderate very fine subangular blocky structure; hard, firm; 0.5 fine roots throughout; 21.0 fine pores; 21 percent insect casts; fragments; clear wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A17126. Shiny coated faces on blocks.
B21—20 to 33 centimeters (7.9 to 13.0 inches); dark brown (10YR 3/3) silty clay loam; weak coarse prismatic, and moderate very fine and fine subangular blocky structure; 21.0 fine pores; 10 percent organic stains on faces of peds; 3 percent insect casts; fragments; clear wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A17127. Shiny coated faces on blocks.
B22—33 to 58 centimeters (13.0 to 22.8 inches); grayish brown (2.5Y 5/2) silty clay loam; 3 percent yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) medium faint and 3 percent gray (10YR 5/1) medium faint mottles; moderate coarse prismatic parts to moderate coarse angular blocky structure; hard, firm; 21.0 fine pores; 10 percent organic stains on faces of peds; 3 percent insect casts; fragments; gradual wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A17128
B3—58 to 94 centimeters (22.8 to 37.0 inches); light olive brown (2.5Y 5/4) silty clay loam; 21 percent yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) medium distinct and 21 percent gray (10YR 5/1) medium distinct mottles; moderate medium prismatic parts to weak medium and coarse angular blocky structure; friable; 21.0 fine pores; 3 percent insect casts; fragments; gradual irregular boundary. Lab sample # 40A17129. Entire matrix is mottles making the basic color hard to determine.
C1—94 to 114 centimeters (37.0 to 44.9 inches); light olive brown (2.5Y 5/4) silty clay loam; gray (10YR 5/1) and yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) and olive brown (2.5Y 4/3) mottles; weak medium and coarse prismatic parts to weak coarse massive; friable; 21.0 fine pores; 1 percent fine iron-manganese concretions; fragments; gradual wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A17130. Prism faces have shiny olive brown color. Entire matrix is mottled.
C2—114 to 152 centimeters (44.9 to 59.8 inches); light olive brown (2.5Y 5/4) silty clay loam; gray (10YR 5/1) distinct and yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) distinct and olive brown (2.5Y 4/3) distinct mottles; massive; very friable; 3 percent fine iron-manganese concretions; fragments. Lab sample # 40A17131. In boring deeper the matrix became calcareous at 78 inches. Lime concretions began at that depth.
