Ap—0 to 18 centimeters (0.0 to 7.1 inches); dark brown (7.5YR 3/2) sand; weak fine granular structure; very friable; 21.0 fine roots; fragments; abrupt smooth boundary. Lab sample # 40A02208
B2h—18 to 33 centimeters (7.1 to 13.0 inches); dark reddish brown (5YR 3/2) and dark reddish brown (5YR 3/4) sand; massive; firm; fragments. Lab sample # 40A02210. The B2h portion of B21 described above.
B21—18 to 33 centimeters (7.1 to 13.0 inches); strong brown (7.5YR 5/6) and strong brown (7.5YR 5/8) sand; weak fine granular structure; very friable; 3.0 fine roots; fragments; clear wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A02209. Surrounds dark reddish brown (5YR 3/2-3/4) sand discontinuous B2h spheres 1/2 to 2 inches in diameter and as ellipsoids 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide and 2 to 4 inches long. These are firm to very firm and massive.
B22—33 to 64 centimeters (13.0 to 25.2 inches); yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) sand; firm; 0.5 fine roots; 10 percent coarse weakly coherent cemented red (2.5YR 4/6); fragments; clear irregular boundary. Lab sample # 40A02211. Estimated 10 percent 1/4 to 1/2 inch red (2.5YR 4/6) firm to very firm nodules, locally 1/4 inch bands up to 8 inches long.
B23—64 to 91 centimeters (25.2 to 35.8 inches); brown (10YR 5/3) sand; weak fine granular structure; friable; 0.5 roots; fragments; clear wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A02212. Locally contains 1/8 to 1/4 inch bands of red (2.5YR 4/8-5/6) firm loamy sand in intricately curved shapes. This horizon locally replaces B22 described above and locally lies below sections of B22 up to 14 inches thick.
B24—91 to 135 centimeters (35.8 to 53.1 inches); pale brown (10YR 6/3) sand; 3 percent red (2.5YR 4/8) medium and coarse mottles; single grain, and weak fine granular; loose; fragments; clear smooth boundary. Lab sample # 40A02213. Few 1/16 to 1/8 inch horizontal bands of concentrated dark minerals (10YR 2/1), which appear to be depositional segregation.
A'2—135 to 170 centimeters (53.1 to 66.9 inches); grayish brown (10YR 5/2) sand; single grain; loose; fragments; abrupt smooth boundary. Lab sample # 40A02214; wet when described;. 15 percent black (10YR 2/1) 1/4 inch bands in which dark minerals are concentrated. This could be considered C horizon except for the horizon below.
B'2g—170 to 183 centimeters (66.9 to 72.0 inches); strong brown (7.5YR 5/8) loamy sand; firm, weakly cemented; fragments; clear boundary. Lab sample # 40A02215. This was in water and when the material was disturbed strong brown fines dispersed and colored the water. The boundary was only seen on material removed.
Cg—183 to 191 centimeters (72.0 to 75.2 inches); gray (10YR 5/1) fine sand; fragments. Lab sample # 40A02216. Not sampled; a gleyed material only seen on the tip of the shovel.
