A1—0 to 18 centimeters (0.0 to 7.1 inches); dark brown (7.5YR 3/2) clay loam; weak medium granular structure; hard when dry, friable, nonsticky, nonplastic; 21.0 fine roots; fragments; very strongly acid, pH 4.8, unspecified; clear smooth boundary. Lab sample # 40A04151. Few fine angular volcanic fragments.
B1—18 to 38 centimeters (7.1 to 15.0 inches); dark yellowish brown (10YR 3/4) gravelly sandy clay loam; weak medium granular structure; very hard, nonsticky, nonplastic; 21.0 fine roots; clay films; 3 percent fine spherical iron concretions and 21 percent black (10YR 2/1) dark concretions; fragments; moderately acid, pH 5.8, unspecified; clear irregular boundary. Lab sample # 40A04152. Few fine angular volcanic fragments; iron concretions could be iron-impregnated volcanic fragments.; patchy - phpvsfiid 187153; patchy - phpvsfiid 187153
B2T—38 to 61 centimeters (15.0 to 24.0 inches); dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) and dark yellowish brown (10YR 3/4) gravelly clay; massive; very hard, moderately sticky, moderately plastic; 3 percent black (10YR 2/1) dark concretions and 3 percent fine iron concretions; fragments; slightly acid, pH 6.3, unspecified; gradual boundary. Lab sample # 40A04153. Many angular volcanic fragments (50 to 75 percent of soil mass); iron concretions could be iron-impregnated volcanic fragments.
C1—61 to 76 centimeters (24.0 to 29.9 inches); dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) and dark yellowish brown (10YR 3/4) gravelly clay; massive; extremely hard, moderately sticky, moderately plastic; 3 percent black (10YR 2/1) dark concretions and 3 percent fine iron concretions; fragments; slightly alkaline, pH 7.6, unspecified. Lab sample # 40A04154. Has more than 75 percent of the soil mass made up of angular volcanic fragments. Several large indurated plinthite boulders were found in the B2t and C1 horizon, which are presumed to be of colluvial origin and not genetically related to this profile.
