A11—0 to 10 centimeters (0.0 to 3.9 inches); gray (10YR 5/1), very dark gray (10YR 3/1), moist; silt loam; weak fine and medium granular structure; hard when dry, friable, nonsticky, slightly plastic; 21.0 fine roots; 21.0 very fine and fine interstitial pores; 1 percent worm casts; fragments; noneffervescent; clear wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A23840. abundant coarse saltgrass stolons and abundant secondary fine root distribution pattern throughout horizon; noncalcareous to dilute acid; reaction not determined in field, see lab data.
A12—10 to 30 centimeters (3.9 to 11.8 inches); gray (10YR 5/1), very dark gray (10YR 3/1), moist; silt loam; massive; hard when dry, friable, nonsticky, slightly plastic; 21.0 fine roots; 21.0 very fine and fine interstitial and 21.0 very fine and fine tubular pores; 1 percent worm casts; fragments; noneffervescent; abrupt wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A23841. few coarse saltgrass stolons; noncalcareous to dilute acid.
C1SICA—30 to 48 centimeters (11.8 to 18.9 inches); white (10YR 8/1), light brownish gray (2.5Y 6/2), moist; loam; massive; hard when dry, friable, nonsticky, slightly plastic; 21.0 fine roots; 3.0 very fine and 0.5 fine tubular pores; fragments; strong effervescence; clear smooth boundary. Lab sample # 40A23842
C2SICA—48 to 56 centimeters (18.9 to 22.0 inches); white (10YR 8/1), light brownish gray (2.5Y 6/2), moist; loam; massive, and weak medium platy; hard when dry, friable, nonsticky, very plastic; 0.5 fine roots; 0.5 very fine and fine tubular pores; fragments; strong effervescence; abrupt smooth boundary. Lab sample # 40A23843. some platelets or laminae having root mat concentrations.
C3SICAM—56 to 76 centimeters (22.0 to 29.9 inches); light gray (5Y 7/2), olive gray (5Y 5/2), moist; 3.0 very fine and 0.5 fine tubular pores; fragments; strong effervescence; clear smooth boundary. Lab sample # 40A23844. on the upper surface and alternating in very thin seams throughout the horizon; upper surface of hardpan continuously covered with a root mat and secondary root mats of a less continuous nature occur along cracks and fissures at other places within the hardpan, roots are flattened and compressed; upper surfaces of hardpan essentially nonporous but an occasional very fine tubular pore in present in places, pores within hardpan are mainly very fine and few in abundance but softer lenses and seams have common very fine and a few fine tubular pores; the lime appearing mainly accessory although dilute acid has a noticeable softening effect on portions of the hardpan.
C4CA—76 to 94 centimeters (29.9 to 37.0 inches); light gray (5Y 7/2), olive gray (5Y 5/2), moist; loam; massive parts to weak medium platy; hard when dry, firm, nonsticky, very plastic; 0.0 roots; 0.5 very fine and fine tubular pores; fragments; strong effervescence; clear smooth boundary. Lab sample # 40A23845
C5—94 to 119 centimeters (37.0 to 46.9 inches); light gray (5Y 7/2) and light olive gray (5Y 6/2), light olive gray (5Y 6/2) and olive gray (5Y 5/2), moist; loam; massive parts to weak fine platy; hard when dry, firm, nonsticky, nonplastic; 0.0 roots; 0.5 very fine and fine tubular pores; fragments; strong effervescence; clear smooth boundary. Lab sample # 40A23846. moderately calcareous with most of the effervescence in the lighter colored softly segregated materials of somewhat higher lime content.
C6—119 to 157 centimeters (46.9 to 61.8 inches); light olive gray (5Y 6/2), olive gray (5Y 5/2), moist; fine sandy loam; yellowish brown (10YR 5/8) and strong brown (7.5YR 5/6) and strong brown (7.5YR 5/6) and 3 percent yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) fine distinct mottles; massive; hard when dry, very friable, nonsticky, nonplastic; 0.0 roots; 0.5 very fine and fine tubular pores; 3 percent fine mica flakes, unspecified; fragments; slight effervescence. Lab sample # 40A23847. the lime being in soft lighter colored lime segregations with the matrix essentially noncalcareous.
