A1—0 to 5 centimeters (0.0 to 2.0 inches); very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2), dark gray (10YR 4/1), dry; loam; moderate fine granular structure; soft, very friable; fragments; noneffervescent; abrupt smooth boundary. Lab sample # 40A29529. The surface 1/4inch of this horizon is an organic mat made up of partially decomposed and forest refuse.
A2—5 to 6 centimeters (2.0 to 2.4 inches); brown (7.5YR 5/3), pink (7.5YR 7/4), dry; loam; weak and moderate fine platy structure; soft, very friable; fragments; noneffervescent; abrupt smooth boundary. Lab sample # 40A29530. This is a thin, but in places distinct horizon, however, it may be absent in some parts of the area. Because of its inconsistency and thinness it was not sampled.
B2t—6 to 15 centimeters (2.4 to 5.9 inches); brown (7.5YR 4/4), brown (7.5YR 5/4), dry; stony clay loam; moderate fine and medium subangular blocky structure; hard, very friable; coats on rock fragments and 30 percent clay films on faces of peds; 40 percent by volume 250-425-600 millimeter unspecified fragments; noneffervescent; gradual irregular boundary. Lab sample # 40A29531. continuous - phpvsfiid 187687; continuous - phpvsfiid 187687
B3—15 to 28 centimeters (5.9 to 11.0 inches); brown (10YR 4/3), brown (10YR 5/3), dry; stony clay loam; weak and moderate fine subangular blocky parts to moderate fine granular structure; hard, very friable; clay films on all faces of peds; 40 percent by volume 250-425-600 millimeter unspecified fragments; strong effervescence; gradual smooth boundary. Lab sample # 40A29532. patchy - phpvsfiid 187689; patchy - phpvsfiid 187689
Cca—28 to 48 centimeters (11.0 to 18.9 inches); dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2), gray (10YR 5/1), dry; stony silt loam; weak and moderate fine granular structure; slightly hard, very friable; 50 percent by volume 250-425-600 millimeter unspecified fragments; violent effervescence; gradual smooth boundary. Lab sample # 40A29533. This is a moderate to strong horizon of lime accumulation with lime occurring mostly in finely divided forms. This horizon feels like a silt loam in the field but is probably a loam on a lime-free basis.
D—48 to 64 centimeters (18.9 to 25.2 inches); fragments. Lab sample # 40A29534. Fractured limestone of Pennsylvanian age. Not sampled.
