AP—0 to 23 centimeters (0.0 to 9.1 inches); dark grayish brown (2.5Y 4/2) silt loam; weak fine granular structure; loose; fragments; abrupt smooth boundary. Lab sample # 40A37750
B1—23 to 43 centimeters (9.1 to 16.9 inches); light olive brown (2.5Y 5/4) and yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) silt loam; weak fine and medium subangular blocky structure; very friable; fragments; clear smooth boundary. Lab sample # 40A37751
B21—43 to 66 centimeters (16.9 to 26.0 inches); grayish brown (2.5Y 5/2) and brown (10YR 5/3) clay loam; 21 percent gray (10YR 6/1) fine mottles; weak fine and medium subangular blocky structure; friable; fragments; abrupt wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A37752. a few fine chert fragments occupy about 5 percent of the soil mass. This horizon extends in tongues which are about 15 inches apart and 2 inches wide down to a depth of 42 inches into the underlying horizons.
B22—66 to 84 centimeters (26.0 to 33.1 inches); strong brown (7.5YR 5/6) clay loam; 21 percent light brownish gray (2.5Y 6/2) prominent mottles; weak medium platy parts to moderate medium angular blocky structure; firm; fragments; clear smooth boundary. Lab sample # 40A37753. very brittle; about 25 percent of the soil mass consists of fine chert fragments.
B22m—84 to 104 centimeters (33.1 to 40.9 inches); dark red (10R 3/6) and yellowish red (5YR 5/6) clay loam; 3 percent light brownish gray (10YR 6/2) medium distinct mottles; weak medium platy, and massive; firm; distinct clay films; fragments; gradual smooth boundary. Lab sample # 40A37754. contains about 15 percent chert fragments.; discontinuous - phpvsfiid 189430; discontinuous - phpvsfiid 189430
B3—104 to 119 centimeters (40.9 to 46.9 inches); dark red (10R 3/6) and yellowish red (5YR 5/6) clay loam; 21 percent light brownish gray (10YR 6/2) distinct mottles; weak fine angular blocky structure; friable; 10 percent clay films; fragments; gradual smooth boundary. Lab sample # 40A37755. some platiness in lower part; chert fragments fewer and smaller than in B22m horizon.
C—119 to 152 centimeters (46.9 to 59.8 inches); dark red (2.5YR 3/6) and yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) and light olive brown (2.5Y 5/6) clay loam; 3 percent light brownish gray (10YR 6/2) prominent mottles; weak medium subangular blocky structure; friable; 0.5 roots; fragments. Lab sample # 40A37756. areas occur in prominent large faces which may be the surface of large prisms; as a few small roots follow these surfaces; less chert than in the overlying horizon.
