A1p—0 to 20 centimeters (0.0 to 7.9 inches); very dark brown (10YR 2/2), very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2), dry; loam; weak fine granular structure; friable; fragments; gradual smooth boundary. Lab sample # 40A11817. cloddy crushing to weak fine granular; sand grains are predominantly clear and do not appear to be coated.
A3—20 to 28 centimeters (7.9 to 11.0 inches); very dark brown (10YR 2/2) and very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2), dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2), dry; loam; massive, and fine granular; friable; 10 percent spherical worm casts; fragments; gradual smooth boundary. Lab sample # 40A11818. appears nearly massive in place but crushes readily to fine granules without change in color, than increases about one unit in value on further crushing; few dark brown spots (approximately 1/2 cm) of material mixed from below; horizontal parting suggests plow sole in upper part.
B1—28 to 38 centimeters (11.0 to 15.0 inches); very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) and 33 percent very dark brown (10YR 2/2) and dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2), brown (10YR 4/3), dry; silty clay loam; 29 percent clay; massive, and weak subangular blocky; friable; fragments; gradual boundary. Lab sample # 40A11819. A horizon of mixed materials apparently due to earthworm activity; cleaves more readily along horizontal and vertical planes than diagonal ones; slightly more firm in place than A horizons.
B21—38 to 55 centimeters (15.0 to 21.7 inches); brown (10YR 4/3) clay loam; weak prismatic structure; firm; dark brown (10YR 3/3) coats on sand and gravel and very dark brown (10YR 2/2) coats on sand and gravel and faint clay films in root channels and/or pores; fragments; gradual boundary. Lab sample # 40A11820. evident vertical cleavage; horizontal cleavage is very weak; coats also on cleavage faces; clay films are not distinct enough to be seen in cross section; some very dark brown wormcasts in upper part of horizon.; patchy - phpvsfiid 174786; patchy - phpvsfiid 174787; patchy - phpvsfiid 174786; patchy - phpvsfiid 174787
1&2B22—55 to 65 centimeters (21.7 to 25.6 inches); brown (10YR 4/3) sandy loam; massive; friable; dark brown (10YR 3/3) coats on sand and gravel and very dark brown (10YR 2/2) coats on sand and gravel; fragments; clear boundary. Lab sample # 40A11821. very weak vertical cleavage; coats are also in pores and on cleavage faces; horizon name should be 1&2B22.; patchy - phpvsfiid 174789; patchy - phpvsfiid 174790; patchy - phpvsfiid 174789; patchy - phpvsfiid 174790
2B3—65 to 88 centimeters (25.6 to 34.6 inches); dark brown (10YR 3/3) loamy sand; massive; very friable; dark brown (10YR 3/3) clay films on sand and gravel; fragments; slight effervescence, by hcl, unspecified; clear boundary. Lab sample # 40A11822. slightly coherent; upper one-half of horizon is slightly more coherent and probably contains slightly more fine material than lower one-half.; patchy - phpvsfiid 174791; patchy - phpvsfiid 174791
2C—88 to 140 centimeters (34.6 to 55.1 inches); dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) and brown (10YR 5/3) Error; single grain; loose; fragments. Lab sample # 40A11823. strata mostly 3 to 10 inches thick; calcareous; carbonate films about 0.1 to 0.5 mm thick cement small clusters of sand to bottom surface of many gravels; abundance of carbonate films and amount of distinctly brownish colors seems to diminish with depth below about 55 inches.
