Ap—0 to 36 centimeters (0.0 to 14.2 inches); dark reddish brown (2.5YR 3/4) clay; moderate fine subangular blocky structure; firm; 3.0 roots; 30 percent pressure faces; fragments; abrupt boundary. Lab sample # 40A04311. fails abruptly; The terms are used to describe the rate of failure of natural fabric: fails abruptly and fails semiplastically. To fail abruptly means that no plasticity is observed prior to failure. Stress builds up as the piece of soil is squeezed and dissipates quickly as the piece of soil breaks apart into numerous fragments or peds due to failure along natural planes of weakness. In semiplastic failure, deformation is readily observed prior to rupture.
Bo1—36 to 69 centimeters (14.2 to 27.2 inches); dusky red (10R 3/4) clay; weak medium subangular blocky parts to moderate very fine and fine granular structure; friable, slightly sticky, moderately plastic; 3.0 roots; 21.0 medium pores; 10 percent pressure faces; fragments. Lab sample # 40A04312
Bo2—69 to 99 centimeters (27.2 to 39.0 inches); dark red (2.5YR 3/6) clay; weak coarse subangular blocky parts to moderate very fine granular structure; friable, slightly sticky; 1.0 roots; clay films; fragments; abrupt boundary. Lab sample # 40A04313. fails abruptly; clay films very scarce if present at all.
R—99 to 203 centimeters (39.0 to 79.9 inches); bedrock; fragments. Hard limestone bedrock ranged from 82 to 175 cm in depth.
