B—13 to 28 centimeters (5.1 to 11.0 inches); dark brown (7.5YR 3/2) clay; weak coarse subangular blocky parts to weak fine granular structure; hard when dry, firm, slightly sticky, slightly plastic; 21.0 roots; 10 percent pressure faces; fragments; slightly acid, pH 6.3, unspecified; gradual wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A04053. Many sand-size and 2-to 5-mm. volcanic fragments.
C—28 to 43 centimeters (11.0 to 16.9 inches); 40 percent grayish brown (2.5Y 5/2) and 40 percent light brownish gray (2.5Y 6/2) and 10 percent light yellowish brown (2.5Y 6/4) and 10 percent dark brown (7.5YR 3/2) Error; massive; hard when dry, firm, slightly sticky, nonplastic; fragments; slightly alkaline, pH 7.6, unspecified. Lab sample # 40A04054. On wetting saprolite can be broken between fingers; grades into hard volcanic rock.
R—43 to 51 centimeters (16.9 to 20.1 inches); fragments. Lab sample # 40A04055. Hard volcanic rock, difficult to dig with spade.
