    A11g—8 to 18 centimeters (3.1 to 7.1 inches); very dark brown (7.5YR 2/2) and yellowish red (5YR 5/8), black (2.5Y 2/1) and gray (10YR 5/1), dry; fine sandy loam, very gravelly loam; 21 percent yellowish red (5YR 4/6) mottles; massive; hard, nonsticky, nonplastic; 21.0 roots top of horizon; fragments; abrupt broken boundary. Lab sample # 40A26902. Very dark brown mottling is largely associated with concentration of roots; at 4 to 5 inches (unsampled) there is a discontinuous very gravel loam which is yellowish red (5YR 5/8 moist); matted concentration of roots.

Lab sample # 40A26903. Discontinuous horizontal bands of dark reddish brown, 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick (three in this horizon).
