O1—0 to 5 centimeters (0.0 to 2.0 inches); fragments; abrupt smooth boundary. Lab sample # 40A29711. Pine needles and cones, partially decomposed.
A1—5 to 13 centimeters (2.0 to 5.1 inches); black (10YR 2/1), very dark gray (10YR 3/1), dry; coarse sandy loam; weak medium subangular blocky structure; slightly hard, loose; 1 percent by volume 2-39-75 millimeter unspecified fragments; noneffervescent; clear wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A29712
A21—13 to 25 centimeters (5.1 to 9.8 inches); dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2), light brownish gray (10YR 6/2), dry; loamy coarse sand; massive; slightly hard, loose; 1 percent by volume 2-39-75 millimeter unspecified fragments; noneffervescent; clear wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A29713
A22—25 to 56 centimeters (9.8 to 22.0 inches); pale brown (10YR 6/3), light gray (10YR 7/2), dry; coarse sand; massive; loose, loose; fragments; noneffervescent; abrupt wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A29714
B21t—56 to 102 centimeters (22.0 to 40.2 inches); brown (10YR 5/3), pale brown (10YR 6/3), dry; sandy loam; moderate fine angular blocky structure; extremely hard, friable; clay films and organic stains; fragments; noneffervescent; clear wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A29715. This horizon consists of horizontal bands of clay loam or sandy clay loam .5 to 1.5 inches in width; the finer textured bands are separated by layers of sand 4 to 8 inches thick that are massive; the finer textured bands have clay films and organic staining; some fine gravel is mixed with the sand.
B21t—102 to 102 centimeters (40.2 to 40.2 inches); brown (10YR 4/3), brown (10YR 4/3), dry; sandy clay loam; moderate fine angular blocky structure; 30 percent clay films; fragments. Lab sample # 40A29719. This is the heavier streaks in the B21 horizon; it is moderate to fine angular blocky with definite clay films and what appears to be organic staining; the heavier material was sampled separately for laboratory analysis.
B22t—102 to 122 centimeters (40.2 to 48.0 inches); grayish brown (2.5Y 5/2), light brownish gray (2.5Y 6/2), dry; coarse sandy loam; very hard, friable; clay films and sand coats; fragments; noneffervescent; gradual boundary. Lab sample # 40A29716. This horizon is similar to the one above; sandy clay loam bands are .5 to 1 inch in width and 6 to 12 inches apart; structure is less pronounced but clay films are evident; sand coatings on the bands are not as thick in this horizon; areas between the bands are coarse loamy sand or sand.
C—122 to 157 centimeters (48.0 to 61.8 inches); pale yellow (2.5Y 7/4), pale yellow (2.5Y 8/4), dry; coarse sand; single grain; loose, loose; fragments; noneffervescent. Lab sample # 40A29717. A few bands 1/4 inch wide of sandy clay loam materials are present in this layer; the bands may be considered part of the B horizon rather than a C horizon.
B21t—157 to 102 centimeters (61.8 to 40.2 inches); pale brown (10YR 6/3), very pale brown (10YR 7/3), dry; coarse sandy loam; massive; hard, loose; fragments. Lab sample # 40A29718. This is sandier material between the heavy streaks of the B21 horizon; it was sampled separately.
