Ap—0 to 15 centimeters (0.0 to 5.9 inches); dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) crushed, yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) crushed, dry; silty clay loam; moderate medium subangular blocky parts to moderate fine granular parts to moderate fine platy structure; hard; 21.0 very fine and fine roots throughout; 21.0 very fine and fine high-continuity interstitial and tubular pores; fragments; noneffervescent; slightly acid, pH 6.3, hellige-truog; clear wavy boundary. Lab sample # 96P02621. The Ap horizon has a platy structure in the lower horizon, probably due to tillage and compaction. Where the platy structure does not appear the structure is probably 2 FM SBK.
Bt1—15 to 27 centimeters (5.9 to 10.6 inches); 70 percent dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) broken face silty clay loam; moderate medium prismatic parts to moderate medium angular blocky structure; friable; 3.0 very fine and fine roots throughout; 3.0 very fine and fine high-continuity interstitial and tubular pores; 10 percent prominent strong brown (7.5YR 4/6), moist, clay films on all faces of peds and 10 percent distinct light brownish gray (10YR 6/2), moist, silt coats on all faces of peds and 10 percent prominent yellowish brown (10YR 5/8), moist, oxide coats on all faces of peds; fragments; noneffervescent; slightly acid, pH 6.3, hellige-truog; clear wavy boundary. Bt2—27 to 41 centimeters (10.6 to 16.1 inches); 50 percent yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) broken face silty clay loam; moderate medium prismatic parts to moderate medium angular blocky parts to moderate medium subangular blocky structure; friable; 3.0 very fine and fine roots throughout; 3.0 very fine and fine high-continuity interstitial and tubular pores; 10 percent prominent strong brown (7.5YR 4/6), moist, clay films on all faces of peds and 10 percent distinct light brownish gray (10YR 6/2), moist, silt coats on all faces of peds and 10 percent prominent yellowish brown (10YR 5/8), moist, oxide coats on all faces of peds and 10 percent distinct black (7.5YR 2/1), moist, manganese or iron-manganese stains on vertical faces of peds; 3 percent fine irregular noncoherent cemented black (7.5YR 2/1) iron-manganese masses throughout; fragments; noneffervescent; strongly acid, pH 5.3, hellige-truog; gradual wavy boundary. Lab sample # 96P02623. The Pedon Program will not record the actual color of the iron-manganese soft masses and thin coats on the ped faces as 7.5YR2.5/1. They were reported as 7.5YR2/1. The same procedure was followed for all of the Bt horizons in which the soft masses appear.; continuous - phpvsfiid 194917; discontinuous - phpvsfiid 194918; patchy - phpvsfiid 194920; discontinuous - phpvsfiid 194919; continuous - phpvsfiid 194917; discontinuous - phpvsfiid 194918; patchy - phpvsfiid 194920; discontinuous - phpvsfiid 194919
Bt3—41 to 65 centimeters (16.1 to 25.6 inches); 50 percent brown (7.5YR 4/4) broken face silty clay loam; moderate medium and coarse subangular blocky parts to moderate medium angular blocky structure; firm; 3.0 very fine roots throughout; 3.0 very fine high-continuity interstitial and tubular pores; 10 percent distinct light brownish gray (10YR 6/2), moist, silt coats on all faces of peds and 10 percent prominent yellowish brown (10YR 5/8), moist, oxide coats on all faces of peds and 10 percent distinct black (7.5YR 2/1), moist, manganese or iron-manganese stains on vertical faces of peds and 30 percent prominent strong brown (7.5YR 4/6), moist, clay films on all faces of peds; 3 percent fine irregular noncoherent cemented black (7.5YR 2/1) iron-manganese masses throughout; fragments; noneffervescent; strongly acid, pH 5.3, hellige-truog; gradual wavy boundary. Bt4—65 to 101 centimeters (25.6 to 39.8 inches); 60 percent yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) broken face silty clay loam; weak medium and coarse prismatic parts to weak medium subangular blocky structure; friable; 3.0 very fine roots throughout; 3.0 very fine and fine high-continuity interstitial and tubular pores; 1 percent distinct black (7.5YR 2/1), moist, manganese or iron-manganese stains on vertical faces of peds and 10 percent distinct light brownish gray (10YR 6/2), moist, silt coats on all faces of peds and 10 percent distinct dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/6), moist, clay films on all faces of peds; 3 percent fine irregular noncoherent cemented black (7.5YR 2/1) iron-manganese masses throughout; fragments; very slight effervescence, by hcl, unspecified; very strongly acid, pH 4.8, hellige-truog; gradual wavy boundary. Lab sample # 96P02625. Between 100 and 160 cm. we observed continuous iron manganese coats on the vertical faces of peds, cracks, and in root channels. The coats appear to be oriented to the aspect and slope of the hill. Silt coats and clay skins were also found on vertical surfaces independently and in layers adjacent to the iron manganese surfaces. Very fine masses of roots were observed along the surfaces of the manganese coats to the bottom of the pit.; discontinuous - phpvsfiid 194931; patchy - phpvsfiid 194933; discontinuous - phpvsfiid 194932; discontinuous - phpvsfiid 194931; patchy - phpvsfiid 194933; discontinuous - phpvsfiid 194932
