Lab sample # 97P00897. Total thickness of the Bhs horizon is 5 to 9 inches. The Bhs horizons have hue of 5YR or 7.5YR, value of 2 or 3, and chroma of 2 or 3. Reaction is strongly acid.
Bs1—51 to 69 centimeters (20.1 to 27.2 inches); dark reddish brown (5YR 3/4) sand; weak medium subangular blocky structure; friable; 21.0 very fine to coarse roots throughout; fragments; strongly acid, pH 5.3, hellige-truog; clear wavy boundary. Lab sample # 97P00898. The Bs horizons have hue of 7.5YR or 5YR, value of 3 to 5, and chroma of 4 to 6. Some pedons have a Bw horizon. It has hue of 10YR, value of 5 and chroma of 6. Reaction of the Bs and Bw horizons are moderately or strongly acid.
Bs2—69 to 89 centimeters (27.2 to 35.0 inches); strong brown (7.5YR 5/6) sand; massive; very friable; 0.5 fine roots throughout; fragments; moderately acid, pH 5.8, hellige-truog; clear wavy boundary. Lab sample # 97P00900. Consisting of several wavy and discontinuous lamellae 1/8 to 1/4 inches thick (total thickness = 2 inches); common discontinuous faint brown (7.5YR 4/4) clay bridges between sand grains. The E portion of the E/Bt horizon has a hue of 10YR or 7.5YR, value of 5 or 6, and chroma of 4. It is sand. Some pedons have an E' horizon above the E/Bt horizon. It has the same color and texture as the E portion of the E/Bt horizon. Reaction of the E and E/Bt horizons are moderately acid. The Bt portion of the E/Bt horizon has hue of 7.5YR, and value and chroma of 4. It is loamy sand.
