Ap1—0 to 8 centimeters (0.0 to 3.1 inches); very dark brown (10YR 2/2) fine sandy loam; strong fine granular structure; very friable; 21.0 very fine roots and medium roots and fine roots; 5 percent by volume , 7 percent by weight 2-40-75 millimeter unspecified fragments observed by weighed method; abrupt smooth boundary. Lab sample # 97P03363
Ap2—8 to 18 centimeters (3.1 to 7.1 inches); very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2), yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) and brown (7.5YR 4/4), dry; fine sandy loam; strong medium granular structure; very friable; 21.0 very fine and fine roots; 5 percent by volume , 7 percent by weight 2-39-75 millimeter unspecified fragments observed by weighed method; abrupt smooth boundary. Lab sample # 97P03364
Ap3—18 to 30 centimeters (7.1 to 11.8 inches); very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2), yellowish red (5YR 5/8) and light yellowish brown (2.5Y 6/4) and strong brown (7.5YR 4/6), dry; fine sandy loam; weak fine and medium subangular blocky structure; very friable; 3.0 very fine to coarse roots; 10 percent by volume , 14 percent by weight 2-39-75 millimeter unspecified fragments observed by weighed method; abrupt smooth boundary. Lab sample # 97P03365
Bw1—30 to 45 centimeters (11.8 to 17.7 inches); light olive brown (2.5Y 5/4), strong brown (7.5YR 4/6) and red (2.5YR 4/6), dry; extremely cobbly fine sandy loam; weak medium subangular blocky structure; friable; medium roots and 1.0 fine roots; 40 percent by volume 75-162-250 millimeter unspecified fragments and 49 percent by volume , 64 percent by weight 2-39-75 millimeter unspecified fragments observed by weighed method; clear wavy boundary. Lab sample # 97P03366. 40% 7.5YR 4/6, 60% matrix of 2.5Y 5/4.
Bw2—45 to 55 centimeters (17.7 to 21.7 inches); light olive brown (2.5Y 5/4), yellowish brown (10YR 5/6), dry; loamy sand; massive; very friable; 1.0 fine roots; 10 percent by volume , 14 percent by weight 2-39-75 millimeter unspecified fragments observed by weighed method; clear wavy boundary. Lab sample # 97P03367. Ap type material in root channels - almost entire thickness of Bw2 horizon about 1 inch diameter and 4 to 5 inches long.
Cd1—55 to 76 centimeters (21.7 to 29.9 inches); light olive brown (2.5Y 5/3), light olive gray (5Y 6/2) and strong brown (7.5YR 4/6), dry; gravelly fine sandy loam; weak medium platy parts to massive; firm; 15 percent by volume , 23 percent by weight 2-39-75 millimeter unspecified fragments observed by weighed method; clear wavy boundary. Lab sample # 97P03368. Upper part of Cd1 has more sand lenses and about 50% Matrix color of 2.5Y 5/3, 25% each of other 2 colors f2p 7.5YR 2/0, Mn stains throughout horizon. Very difficult to determine matrix color - 5Y 6/2 color are large bodies, 7.5YR 4/6 color is rind around 5Y 6/2 features and large bodies throughout about 20% matrix color 40% each 5Y 6/2 and 7.5YR 4/6. Cd horizons are quite moist - and dig fairly easily. Warren Lynn does not consider them firm consistence in digging, but likely they get firmer as dries out. The NH bias is to call these pans as firm instead of friable.
Cd2—76 to 117 centimeters (29.9 to 46.1 inches); light olive brown (2.5Y 5/4), gray (5Y 6/1) and strong brown (7.5YR 4/6), dry; fine sandy loam; weak medium platy parts to massive; friable; 12 percent by volume , 17 percent by weight 2-39-75 millimeter unspecified fragments observed by weighed method; clear wavy boundary. Lab sample # 97P03369. Mn stains on surfaces of rocks may be due to Mn oxidizes on surface of rocks - so no reduction movement maybe. (7.5YR 3/2, 7.5YR 4/6 color as rinds around depletions as well as soft bodies. Cd horizons are quite moist - and dig fairly easily. Warren Lynn does not consider them firm consistence in digging, but likely they get firmer as dries out. The NH bias is to call these pans as firm instead of friable.
Cd3—117 to 160 centimeters (46.1 to 63.0 inches); olive brown (2.5Y 4/4), light yellowish brown (2.5Y 6/3) and strong brown (7.5YR 4/6) and dark brown (7.5YR 3/3), dry; gravelly fine sandy loam; massive; firm; 20 percent by volume , 29 percent by weight 2-39-75 millimeter unspecified fragments observed by weighed method. Lab sample # 97P03370. Cd horizons are quite moist - and dig fairly easily. Warren Lynn does not consider them firm consistence in digging, but likely they get firmer as dries out. The NH bias is to call these pans as firm instead of friable.
