Ap—0 to 17 centimeters (0.0 to 6.7 inches);, dark brown (10YR 3/3) exterior, moist; loam; weak fine granular structure; friable; 3.0 fine roots throughout; fragments; noneffervescent, by hcl, 1n; abrupt wavy boundary. Lab sample # 02N02459; observed in trench
A—17 to 26 centimeters (6.7 to 10.2 inches);, very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) exterior, moist; loam; weak fine subangular blocky, and moderate medium granular structure; friable; 3.0 fine roots throughout; fragments; noneffervescent, by hcl, 1n; abrupt wavy boundary. Lab sample # 02N02460; observed in trench
C1—26 to 52 centimeters (10.2 to 20.5 inches);, brown (10YR 5/3) exterior, moist; very fine sandy loam; massive; very friable; 1.0 fine roots throughout; 4 percent fine distinct irregular noncoherent cemented strong brown (7.5YR 4/6), moist, masses of oxidized iron infused into matrix along faces of peds; fragments; noneffervescent, by hcl, 1n; abrupt wavy boundary. Lab sample # 02N02461; observed in trench
Ab—52 to 64 centimeters (20.5 to 25.2 inches);, brown (10YR 4/3) exterior, moist; silt loam; weak fine subangular blocky structure; friable; fragments; strong effervescence, by hcl, 1n; abrupt wavy boundary. Lab sample # 02N02462; observed in trench. The surface of some peds appear to have 10YR 7/2 coatings of silt.
C2—64 to 89 centimeters (25.2 to 35.0 inches);, pale brown (10YR 6/3) exterior, moist; very fine sandy loam; massive; very friable; 8 percent fine distinct irregular noncoherent cemented strong brown (7.5YR 4/6), moist, masses of oxidized iron infused into matrix along faces of peds; fragments; strong effervescence, by hcl, 1n; clear smooth boundary. Lab sample # 02N02463; observed in trench. The bottom 7.5 cm of this horizon is a strata of silt loam texture, 10YR 5/3, that appears higher in organic carbon.
C3—89 to 106 centimeters (35.0 to 41.7 inches);, pale brown (10YR 6/3) exterior, moist; stratified stratified loamy very fine sand; massive; very friable; 3 percent fine distinct irregular noncoherent cemented strong brown (7.5YR 4/6), moist, masses of oxidized iron infused into matrix along faces of peds; fragments; noneffervescent, by hcl, 1n; abrupt wavy boundary. Lab sample # 02N02464; observed in trench
C4—106 to 128 centimeters (41.7 to 50.4 inches);, light gray (10YR 7/2) exterior, moist; stratified stratified fine sand; single grain; friable; 8 percent fine distinct irregular noncoherent cemented strong brown (7.5YR 5/6), moist, masses of oxidized iron infused into matrix along faces of peds; fragments; slight effervescence, by hcl, 1n; abrupt wavy boundary. Lab sample # 02N02465; observed in trench. Redoximorphic concentrations are in horizontal band near the bottom of the horizon and are associated with strata. There are many strata 1-2 mm thick of 10YR 5/3.
C5—128 to 142 centimeters (50.4 to 55.9 inches);, brown (10YR 5/3) exterior, moist; very fine sandy loam; massive; friable; 10 percent fine and medium distinct irregular noncoherent cemented strong brown (7.5YR 5/6), moist, masses of oxidized iron infused into matrix along faces of peds; fragments; slight effervescence, by hcl, 1n; abrupt wavy boundary. Lab sample # 02N02466; observed in trench
C6—142 to 156 centimeters (55.9 to 61.4 inches);, pale brown (10YR 6/3) exterior, moist; stratified stratified fine sand; single grain; loose; 10 percent medium and coarse distinct irregular noncoherent cemented strong brown (7.5YR 5/6), moist, masses of oxidized iron infused into matrix along faces of peds; fragments; slight effervescence, by hcl, 1n; abrupt wavy boundary. Lab sample # 02N02467; observed in trench. Two bags of sample were collected and submitted to the NSSL. Bag 1 is the soil matrix material, bag 2 is a subsample of the thicker strata.
C7—156 to 185 centimeters (61.4 to 72.8 inches);, light gray (10YR 7/2) exterior, moist; stratified stratified sand; single grain; loose; 15 percent medium and coarse distinct irregular noncoherent cemented strong brown (7.5YR 5/6), moist, masses of oxidized iron infused into matrix along faces of peds; fragments; noneffervescent, by hcl, 1n. Lab sample # 02N02468; observed in trench. The redoximorphic concentrations are all associated with strata that impedes water movement.
