    Oi—0 to 3 centimeters (0.0 to 1.2 inches); fragments. Mat of newly fallen leaves and partly decomposed leaves from hard maple, soft maple, beech, cherry, and tuliptree. Not sampled.
    Oe—3 to 4 centimeters (1.2 to 1.6 inches); fragments; abrupt wavy boundary. Lab sample # OSU0004944. Mat of leaves and twigs that are partly to nearly decomposed.
    A—4 to 8 centimeters (1.6 to 3.1 inches); black (10YR 2/1) Error; weak very fine granular structure; very friable; fragments; abrupt wavy boundary. Lab sample # OSU0004945. Soft when dry. An occasional tongue of A horizon extends up to 1 inch into the E horizon. Many sandstone fragments up to 6 inches in diameter lie on soil surface.
