A1—0 to 5 centimeters (0.0 to 2.0 inches); very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2), 10YR 2 (10YR/2), dry; Error; fine granular structure; very friable; fragments; very strongly acid, pH 4.8; abrupt boundary. Lab sample # OSU0006148
A2—5 to 10 centimeters (2.0 to 3.9 inches); dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2), pale brown (10YR 6/3), dry; Error; weak very fine granular structure; very friable; fragments; very strongly acid, pH 4.6; abrupt wavy boundary. Lab sample # OSU0006149
E—10 to 20 centimeters (3.9 to 7.9 inches); yellowish brown (10YR 5/4), very pale brown (10YR 7/4), dry; Error; weak fine subangular blocky, and weak platy structure; very friable; fragments; very strongly acid, pH 4.8; abrupt boundary. Lab sample # OSU0006150. Platiness 1+ inches thick, 3 layers within horizon. Several small sandstone fragments.
BE—20 to 28 centimeters (7.9 to 11.0 inches); yellowish brown (10YR 5/4), very pale brown (10YR 7/3), dry; Error; moderate medium subangular blocky structure; friable; 1 percent medium faint brown (7.5YR 4/4), moist, masses of reduced iron; fragments; very strongly acid, pH 5.0; clear boundary. Lab sample # OSU0006151. Moderately firm in place. The ped surfaces show grazing, clay coatings being depleted. Occasional sandstone fragments.
B1—28 to 38 centimeters (11.0 to 15.0 inches); yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) and strong brown (7.5YR 5/6) and gray (2.5Y 5/1) Error; medium and coarse, and prismatic structure; firm; 33 percent fine prominent grayish brown (2.5Y 5/2), moist, masses of oxidized iron; fragments; very strongly acid, pH 5.0; clear boundary. Lab sample # OSU0006152. Clay coatings appear to be thicker on the gray (2.5Y 5/1) than on the yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) surfaces, and also more prominent on vertical than horizontal surfaces.
B2—38 to 48 centimeters (15.0 to 18.9 inches); strong brown (7.5YR 5/6) Error; strong medium and coarse angular blocky, and moderate prismatic structure; very firm; clay films; 11 percent medium prominent dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4), moist, masses of reduced iron and 11 percent medium prominent pale brown (10YR 6/3), moist, masses of reduced iron; fragments; strongly acid, pH 5.1; abrupt boundary. Lab sample # OSU0006153. Some lighter gray clay coatings on vertical faces show slight evidence of development of a leached horizon above the fragipan. Horizontal surfaces have discontinuous clay coatings.
BCm1—48 to 58 centimeters (18.9 to 22.8 inches); brown (7.5YR 4/4) and gray (2.5Y 5/1) and dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) and gray (2.5Y 5/1) Error; extremely firm; fragments; strongly acid, pH 5.3; gradual boundary. Lab sample # OSU0006154. The main vertical faces have moderate continuous clay coatings. Horizontal surfaces have discontinuous clay coatings.
BCm2—58 to 74 centimeters (22.8 to 29.1 inches); brown (10YR 4/3) and yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) Error; massive, and moderate angular blocky; extremely firm; 10 percent black (10YR 2/1), moist, manganese coatings and 11 percent medium distinct brown (10YR 4/3), moist, masses of reduced iron; fragments; moderately acid, pH 5.8; gradual boundary. Lab sample # OSU0006155. Angular blocky structure occurs on discontinuous, mainly vertical faces. The vertical faces have clay coatings that are partly continuous and partly discontinuous. Horizontal surfaces have discontinuous clay coatings. Occasional clay seams to 0.375 inches
BCm3—74 to 84 centimeters (29.1 to 33.1 inches); brown (10YR 4/3) and yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) Error; massive, and weak angular blocky; extremely firm; 10 percent black (10YR 2/1), moist, manganese coatings and 11 percent medium distinct dark grayish brown (2.5Y 4/2), moist, masses of reduced iron; fragments; slightly acid, pH 6.3; clear boundary. Lab sample # OSU0006156. Angular blocky structure occurs on discontinuous vertical faces. The vertical faces have clay coatings that are partly continuous and partly discontinuous. Horizontal surfaces have discontinuous clay coatings. Common dark gray (10YR 4/1) clay seams 0.125
BCm4—84 to 99 centimeters (33.1 to 39.0 inches); dark grayish brown (2.5Y 4/2) and brown (10YR 4/3) Error; massive, and weak; firm; prominent clay films; fragments; neutral, pH 6.8; gradual boundary. Lab sample # OSU0006157. This horizon not considered fragipan.
84 to 99 centimeters (33.1 to 39.0 inches); Error; fragments. Lab sample # OSU0006160. Dark gray (10YR 4/1, 4/2) thick vertical clay seams up to 0.5 inches thick were separated from mass of horizon.
