Oi—0 to 4 centimeters (0.0 to 1.6 inches); fragments. Leaf litter.
Oe—4 to 5 centimeters (1.6 to 2.0 inches); fragments. Decayed leaves and twigs. A trace.
A—5 to 13 centimeters (2.0 to 5.1 inches); very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) Error; moderate very fine granular structure; very friable; fragments; very strongly acid, pH 4.8; abrupt smooth boundary. Lab sample # OSU0010302. Less than 5% of volume consists of sandstone fragments, 1 inch on long axis. Several large fragments up to 12 inches across. Estimated permeability is very rapid.
E—13 to 20 centimeters (5.1 to 7.9 inches); dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2) Error; weak very fine platy, and moderate granular structure; very friable; fragments; very strongly acid, pH 5.0; clear smooth boundary. Lab sample # OSU0010303. About 5% of volume consists of sandstone fragments, 0.5-1 inch on long axis. Several large fragments up to 12 inches across. Estimated permeability is moderately rapid.
BE—20 to 36 centimeters (7.9 to 14.2 inches); dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) Error; moderate fine and medium subangular blocky structure; friable; fragments; strongly acid, pH 5.4; clear smooth boundary. Lab sample # OSU0010304. About 10% of volume consists of sandstone fragments, 2 inches on long axis. This horizon appears to have a stone line at 10 to 12 inches, which contains about 80% sandstone fragments 6-12 inches on long axis. Estimated permeability is moderate.
Bt1—36 to 56 centimeters (14.2 to 22.0 inches); yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) Error; moderate medium subangular blocky structure; firm; fragments; very strongly acid, pH 5.0; clear smooth boundary. Lab sample # OSU0010305. About 10% of volume consists of sandstone fragments, 1 inch on long axis. Estimated permeability is moderate.
Bt2—56 to 74 centimeters (22.0 to 29.1 inches); yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) Error; moderate coarse subangular blocky structure; firm; 1 percent fine faint brown (10YR 5/3), moist, masses of reduced iron; fragments; very strongly acid, pH 5.0; abrupt smooth boundary. Lab sample # OSU0010306. About 10% of volume consists of sandstone fragments, 1 inch on long axis. Estimated permeability is moderately slow.
C1—74 to 81 centimeters (29.1 to 31.9 inches); light yellowish brown (10YR 6/4) Error; weak medium subangular blocky structure; firm; 35 percent distinct very dark gray (10YR 3/1), moist, organic stains; 11 percent medium distinct strong brown (7.5YR 5/6), moist, masses of oxidized iron; fragments; very strongly acid, pH 5.0; clear smooth boundary. Lab sample # OSU0010307. About 10% of volume consists of sandstone fragments, 1 inch on long axis. Estimated permeability is slow.
C2—81 to 107 centimeters (31.9 to 42.1 inches); yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) Error; massive; very firm; fragments; very strongly acid, pH 5.0; clear smooth boundary. Lab sample # OSU0010308. About 5% of volume consists of fine shaly fragments. Estimated permeability is very slow.
C3—107 to 132 centimeters (42.1 to 52.0 inches); gray (10YR 6/1) Error; massive; 11 percent medium distinct red (2.5YR 5/6), moist, masses of oxidized iron; fragments. Lab sample # OSU0010309. Auger sample.
