Bt1—33 to 51 centimeters (13.0 to 20.1 inches); yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) sandy clay loam; moderate coarse subangular blocky, and moderate medium subangular blocky structure; firm; faint brown (10YR 5/3), moist, clay films; medium distinct grayish brown (10YR 5/2), moist, iron depletions; 2 percent by volume indurated sandstone, unspecified fragments; very strongly acid, pH 4.9; gradual smooth boundary. Lab sample # OSU0020954. Roots were not described in this pedon. Mottles were described as common. Clay films were described as common. "15 percent of volume consists of irregularly shaped masses of sandy clay loam or sandy loam" was described.

Lab sample # OSU0020955. Roots were not described in this pedon. Mottles were described as many. Clay films were described as common "on peds". "commn dark Fe-Mn concretions" were described. "few pockets of sandy loam" were described.

2Bt3—71 to 94 centimeters (28.0 to 37.0 inches); brownish yellow (10YR 6/6) clay loam; strong very coarse prismatic parts to moderate very thick platy structure; very firm; faint grayish brown (10YR 5/2), moist, clay films; coarse prominent gray (10YR 5/1), moist, iron depletions and coarse prominent gray (10YR 6/1), moist, iron depletions; fragments; very strongly acid, pH 4.8; abrupt wavy boundary. Lab sample # OSU0020956. "prism coats are pinkish gray (7.5YR 7/2), light gray (10YR 7/2), and yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) and have thin patchy clay films" was described. "faces of plates are grayish brown (10YR 5/2)" was described. "sand grains evident in some vertical cleavages" was described. Roots were not described in this pedon.

2C—94 to 114 centimeters (37.0 to 44.9 inches); variegated 25 percent dark gray (5YR 4/1) and 25 percent pinkish gray (7.5YR 6/2) and 25 percent light brownish gray (10YR 6/2) and 25 percent very pale brown (10YR 7/3) very channery silty clay loam; weak thick platy structure; 55 percent by volume indurated shale, unspecified fragments; very strongly acid, pH 5.0; abrupt wavy boundary. Lab sample # OSU0020957. Weathered shale. Colors extremely variable, but including 5YR 4/1, 7.5YR 6/2, 10YR 6/2, and 10YR 7/3. Crushes to silty clay. Horizontal layers 1/4 to 2 inches thick. Vertical cleavage faces 2 to 6 inches apart are coated with 10YR 6/1 and 7/1 and 10YR 6/2; Consistence was not described. Roots were not described in this pedon. The matrix color was described as variegated with 4 colors listed. No percentage was described for each color, so I assigned 25% to each color.
