    A2—10 to 25 centimeters (3.9 to 9.8 inches); light yellowish brown (10YR 6/4), pale yellow (2.5Y 7/4) oxidized and pale yellow (2.5Y 8/4) oxidized, dry; fine sandy loam; weak fine granular structure; very friable; fragments. Lab sample # 40A31486. pinholes, wormholes, and small worm pellets of darker material are numerous; small flecks of strong brown (7.5YR 5/6) that are few in upper part and common in lower part of horizon.

Lab sample # 40A31491. ironpan horizon which consists of soil material between ironstone pieces; plates are mainly dark red (2.5YR 3/6) with some thin layers of yellowish red (5YR 5/8); they range from 3-10 mm in thickness, lie horizontal for the most part, and are discontinuous but make up a large part of the volume of horizon; plates are numerous enough to form a distinct hardpan; distinct boundary.
