B21—18 to 25 centimeters (7.1 to 9.8 inches); brown (7.5YR 4/4) loamy very fine sand; weak very fine granular structure; friable; 21.0 fine roots; fragments; gradual wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A02137. Few 1/4 inch holes.
B22—25 to 36 centimeters (9.8 to 14.2 inches); brown (7.5YR 5/4) loamy fine sand; weak very fine granular structure; friable; 3.0 medium roots and 3.0 fine roots; fragments; gradual smooth boundary. Lab sample # 40A02138. Few 1/8 inch dead medium roots which look like equisetum.
B23—36 to 56 centimeters (14.2 to 22.0 inches); yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) loamy fine sand; weak very fine granular structure; friable; 0.5 medium roots and 3.0 fine roots; fragments; gradual wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A02139
B31—56 to 74 centimeters (22.0 to 29.1 inches); brown (10YR 5/3) fine sand, loamy fine sand; massive, and very fine granular; firm; 0.5 medium roots and 3.0 fine roots; fragments; clear wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A02140
B32—74 to 81 centimeters (29.1 to 31.9 inches); 70 percent brown (10YR 5/3) and 30 percent brown (10YR 4/3) fine sand, loamy fine sand; massive, and weak very fine granular; 0.5 fine roots; fragments; abrupt wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A02141. 70 percent fine sand and 30 percent loamy fine sand in spots from 1/8 to 1/2 inch in diameter and in a wavy horizontal and diagonal bands mainly less than 1/16 inch wide; extensions of the B31 interrupts the horizon in one 4-inch section in two feet.
B'24—81 to 83 centimeters (31.9 to 32.7 inches); brown (10YR 4/3) and 10 percent brown (7.5YR 4/3) loamy fine sand; firm; brittle; 0.5 fine roots; fragments; abrupt wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A02142. Band of loamy fine sand with 10 percent occupied by (7.5YR 4/3); irregular shaped very thin bands and small spots of (10YR 5/3) loose fine sand are enclosed by darker parts.
B33—83 to 97 centimeters (32.7 to 38.2 inches); brown (10YR 5/3) fine sand; massive; firm; 0.5 fine roots; fragments; abrupt wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A02143. Random diagonal cleavage planes spaced 1/2 to several inches apart are (10YR 8/2) threadlike lines on the face of the firmest part of the horizon.
B'25—97 to 98 centimeters (38.2 to 38.6 inches); brown (7.5YR 4/3) loamy fine sand; massive; firm; brittle; 0.5 fine roots; fragments; abrupt wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A02144. Band of loamy fine sand mainly (7.5YR 4/3) but with inclusions of very thin horizontal bands of (10YR 4/3); the band branches to enclose elliptical bodies of loose brown fine sand. At lower boundary same microstructures described under B'24 occur.
B34—98 to 132 centimeters (38.6 to 52.0 inches); 95 percent brown (10YR 5/3) and 5 percent brown (7.5YR 4/4) fine sand; very friable; fragments; abrupt wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A02145. 5 percent is very thin bands in an intricate pattern and irregular shaped spots of similar material.
B'26—132 to 135 centimeters (52.0 to 53.1 inches); brown (7.5YR 4/3) loamy fine sand, fine sandy loam; massive; fragments; abrupt wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A02146. Very thin bands of loamy fine sand and fine sandy loam intermingled with equally thin bands of material like that of B34; massive except for banding.
B35—135 to 155 centimeters (53.1 to 61.0 inches); grayish brown (10YR 5/2) fine sand; very friable; fragments. Lab sample # 40A02147. Few thin bands 1/2 to 1 inch spots of (10YR 4/3-5/3) fine sand.
B'27—155 to 160 centimeters (61.0 to 63.0 inches); brown (7.5YR 4/3) and 40 percent brown (10YR 4/3) and brown (10YR 5/3) loamy fine sand; firm; brittle; fragments. Lab sample # 40A02148. Very irregular (7.5YR 4/3) loamy fine sand including 40 percent (10YR 4/3-5/3) sand in bodies a fraction more than an inch across; reddest parts firm in place. 10YR parts massive and friable; several 1/8 inch roots that look like equisetum. Horizon extends halfway across end of pit sampled as a 2 inch band but expands halfway to an irregular shaped body 14 inches horizontally and 20 inches vertically. Band was sampled where 2 inches thick under this number. Expanded part of horizon sampled separately under B'27.
B36—160 to 203 centimeters (63.0 to 79.9 inches); grayish brown (10YR 5/2) fine sand; weak platy, and massive; very friable; 0.5 medium roots; fragments; clear wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A02149. Few faint slightly darker spots and very thin bands; extremely weak tendency to platy cleavage along faint lines of lamination; roots are dead like those in B'27 extended vertically to bottom of horizon.
B37—203 to 229 centimeters (79.9 to 90.2 inches); 40 percent brown (10YR 5/3) and 50 percent brown (10YR 4/3) and 10 percent brown (7.5YR 4/3) fine sand, loamy fine sand; loose; medium roots; fragments; abrupt wavy boundary. Lab sample # 40A02150. Fine sand and loamy fine sand in an irregular pattern. Reddest parts are slightly more coherent than the matrix; roots believed to be equisetum present.

Sands are slightly coarser than in B37 (from auger the material below 108 to 144 is like this but lacks the banded mottling. Saturated at 120 inches.)
